KOKUSAI TORA JUTSU KYOKAI
Welcome to Tora Jutsu
Tora Jutsu is a self-defense martial arts system that has wound its way through the fabric of history for over 1,000 years. While the wars of old are no more the war for our general safety, time, mental well-being, and physical health continue. We train our students to be prepared in the event of attack but we also train them to be prepared
The Kokusai Tora Jutsu Kyokai
International Tora Jutsu Federation
Our system is comprised of private, public, and family schools from around the world. We are known as Tora Jutsu in much of the world due to our Okinawan history. However, we are known as Nan Sao Lin Baihu Chuan Fa in China, and many of our schools around the world whose Masters come from that side of the system family.
he system has passed from Master to Master over time. There is only one iemoto or Soke (Gamily head or Grandmaster) on earth at a time and today the 37th Soke is Grandmaster Toru, the first Grandmaster from the West.
Perfection takes time
The path of Tora Jutsu is unlike that of your typical martial arts school. You do not "take" Tora Jutsu, it must be offered, earned, and learned. It is not a class, and it is not something you sign up for. Tora Jutsu is an art that you must apply for and then spend the rest of your pre-black belt study working to earn the right to be called a student. In Tora Jutsu, it is only after you become a Black Belt that you are granted admission as a student. It is immediately prior to being awarded the title of Sensei. We must learn how to learn before true learning can take place.
Tora Jutsu
A quick history lesson
Is it Karate? Is it Kung Fu? The answer is yes! Tora Jutsu has two main lines one from Southern China and one from Okinawa. In 1912 a traveling monk from China visited Okinawa and began to study with a local Master. Over the next 16 years, they worked to combine the systems, and what was Nan Sao Lin Báihǔ Chuan Fa and Tonaka-Te became Tora Jutsu. Sifu Shen-Shang Yun returned to China as the Grandmaster following in with a line of 35 previous Grandmasters and Isamu Tonaka Sensei was named the Hanshi and remained in
Okinawa.
Nan Sao Lin Báihǔ Chuan came about over the centuries through Pa-Kua (Ba-Gua), Lama Pai, Hung Gar, and other defense-based flowing arts. Tonaka-Te is a family system passed down from father to son through the Tonaka family in Okinawa. A soft water-based system that incorporated many of the same roots as its Chinese counterpart. It is famously told that in 1951 Isamu Sensei commented that the two systems were destined for each other and their unification was simply allowing nature to take its course.
Think back to that moment when your train stopped so hard and fast that it knocked you right off the tracks of life. Maybe it was your career, health, finances, or a relationship. What caused you to crawl back up, pull yourself up straight and start walking again? It wasn't money although it may have helped, and it wasn't someone else it was YOU. Look back and look within and you will see it was your ATTITUDE that changed, improved, and gave you the courage, the strength, and the drive to get back in the game.
Tora Jutsu is powered by attitude! We teach it in every class, show it in our personal lives and share it with anyone in need. Tora Jutsu requires us to take very difficult situations n life and make a very difficult decision in a split second. Knowing you can, knowing you are good enough, knowing that it will work out and you are capable and powerful is critical to victory. We don't accept negativity, we take it, evaluate it and turn it into opportunity in life and in the dojo.
Targeting
It doesn't do any good to have the perfect strike or kick if you can't hit the target. Using everything from bean bags to ping pong balls our students learn to track movement and hit the target first strike, every strike. Students gain power and confidence when they can target efficiently.
"Tonaka Sensei had a tennis ball on a string hanging from a pole. My task was to kick or punch depending on where the ball was located. It sounded so easy...Whoops, it wasn't."

Partner Work
Tora Jutsu is a Menkyo system meaning we teach in a direct transmission style from Master to student. Emphasis is put on learning to master the essence and movements of the system rather than just passing a set list of cold requirements that you simply do and check off.
So many systems and schools believe that if you don't practice at full speed you will never know if your system is effective.
If I take an egg and hit it what will happen?

The Life Belt
Students pass through a series of colored belts on their way to becoming a Black Belt. However, exceptional students may have the opportunity to surrender their colored belt and take a red belt in its place. This is a life commitment and they will not wear another belt until they reach Black belt. They are leaders and examples in the dojo. Are you a life belt candidate in the making?
Study
We teach students everything they need to know to defend the lives of themselves or others. However, part of that learning is understanding our history, philosophies, life lessons, and skills necessary to become an effective teachers.
When we understand who we are, where we came from and why we do what we do...
